Sacramento Signs SAFE Credit Union To Convention Center Naming Rights Deal

As renovation work continues on the downtown convention center on J Street at 15th Street in Sacramento, once it reopens in fall of 2020 the facility will known as the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center.

On Thursday it was announced by city officials that SAFE Credit Union said it has entered into a 25-year, $23-million deal for the naming rights to the Convention Center, the Community Center Theater, and the adjacent Outdoor Plaza. The entire complex of properties will be called the SAFE Credit Union Convention and Performing Arts District.

The credit union reportedly is also investing a total of $340 million into the overall renovation project and will also enter into a "long-term" deal related to the City's treasury and cash flow needs.

The process of finding a naming rights partner for the Convention Center and associated properties began about two years ago, and city officials wrote in a news release, "SAFE Credit Union was deemed to offer the best value to the City, both financially and in terms of their ability to partner with the City and the local community."
