Student ID Cards Will Include Suicide Prevention Information This Year

When middle and high school students head back to school this year, they will be noticing a new addition to their student ID cards. Following the new California Law, school administration will be adding The National Suicide Prevention Hotline phone number. The number, 1-800- 273-8255, will be accessible for students starting in 7th grade and up through college level for public, private and charter schools.

In addition to the hotline number on the card, schools are holding suicide prevention presentations and giving teachers training on the topic. This change in policy can give students a resource and education about suicide prevention hopefully cutting down on the number of youths impacted by the issue.

If you're thinking about suicide, or if you are worried about someone you know, there is free, confidential help available anytime. Visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline website or call 800-273-TALK (8255).
