Northern California Deer Shot In Face With Arrow Recovering After Help

A Northern California deer that captured the hearts of thousands on social media is on the road to recovery, after being shot in the face with an arrow. Yreka Police Lieutenant Chris Betts says officers were able to find the deer, sedate it, and remove the arrow, but unfortunately this isn't an isolated incident.

"It happens, like I said, every year and we have this similar type of situation," Betts said. "Never through the snout or the nose, so this was a little different. Usually (the arrows) sticking through a leg or somewhere that's not vital."

Betts says because the city is so close to the national forest, the deer could have been shot there, but he doesn't believe that's the case. He reminds people it's illegal to shoot animals within city limits.
