PG&E Warns Of Power Shut Down For Big Chunk Of Nor Cal Through Wednesday

Pacific Gas & Electric Company officials are using an abundance of caution to be sure their equipment doesn't spark a wildfire in susceptible areas throughout Northern California.

The utility continues to monitor hot, dry and windy weather over the next few days and anticipates that it will need to shut off power for safety in nine counties starting late in the afternoon or in the early evening on Monday. Those include Butte, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sutter, Yuba, Napa, Sonoma, and Lake counties.

PG&E is also tracking a similar weather event in the same general geographic region for Tuesday evening through Wednesday, and company officials are promising to provide notice to customers in advance of this safety event through automated phone calls, texts, social media and emails.

Thousands of customers could be affected if the power is shut off. In Butte the count will be 22,920; El Dorado 3,640; Nevada 12,950; Placer 22,180; Sutter 230; Yuba 5,240; Lake 12,840; Napa 10,500; Sonoma 33,500.

PG&E will offer community resource centers in multiple locations starting Tuesday, September 24, at 8:00 a.m. The centers will be open during daylight hours only and will provide restrooms, bottled water, electronic device charging and air-conditioned seating for up to 100 customers each.
