CHP: Officer Struck by Sutter County Driver is 'Critical but Stable'

California Highway Patrol has identified the officer who was hit by a vehicle in Sutter County early Saturday morning (October 19).

Officer David Gordon was struck by "a gray SUV traveling at a high rate of speed" around 1:11 AM. Gordon "sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital," said CHP. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

CHP later elaborated on Gordon's condition through a Facebook post, saying his condition was "critical but stable".

"He has already undergone a seven-hour surgery to the compound breaks in his leg and broken arm, his spleen was removed to treat internal bleeding, he is facing surgery Wednesday for multiple pelvis fractures, a broken jaw, and a broken shoulder blade. This list is by no means all-inclusive of the extent of his injuries. Officer Gordon is facing a long recovery," said CHP.

Many have taken to Facebook to offer the 13-year veteran of the department prayers and well wishes.
