PG&E Warns Over Quarter Of A Million Customers Could Lose Power This Week

Workers Examine Site Of PG&E Gas Leak Explosion In San Francisco

Brace yourself once again for a planned power outage if you're a PG&E customer. The struggling utility announced that approximately 264,000 customers in 22 counties could be without electricity as early as Wednesday of this week due to weather forecasts that call for strong winds in areas of Northern California where high winds and dry conditions also pose a fire risk.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for portions of Northern California from Wednesday through Thursday this week. The NWS said winds could gust up to 50 mph in some area. The combined with lower humidity is likely to raise the fire danger.

In a statement, the company said that portions of the following counties could be affected if PG&E moves forward with a (Public Safety Power Shutoff): Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo and Yuba.

PG&E official said Monday morning that they had begun 48-hour advance notifications to customers.

It was just last month that hundreds of thousands of customers went without power due to preventative outages by PG&E. The company is proactively shutting off the electricity after being found liable for causing the November 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California that destroyed thousands of structures and took the lives of dozens of people.
