Students Go Back Class For The First Since The Saugus High Shooting

Students returned to class Monday at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita for the first time since the mass shooting there two-and-a-half weeks ago took the lives of two classmates and three others wounded. Student Body President Andrei Mojica said the "outpouring" from the community has been a great comfort.

"Please, please, please keep send your support, please keep sending your love," he told reporters. "All the kindness, all the just positivity."

The 16-year-old gunman eventually turned his gun on himself. He died later at the same hospital where his victims were treated for the wounds. Investigators still haven't found a motive for the shooting.

Grief counselors were scheduled to be on-campus until students, parents, and staff no longer need help dealing with the trauma. In fact, the school district enlisted the help of David Shoenfeld from the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement.

"He has met with this school's staff, has met with our district staff, and has met with parents," said Superintendent Mike Kuhlman. "We will be working with Mr. Shoenfeld in the weeks and months to come to help us understand how to help our community to move forward in the wake of the tragedy."

Kuhlman added that two organizations have put therapy dogs on the campus trying to restore as much normalcy as possible.
