A memorial was held Saturday evening for 12-year-old Kendra Czekaj, who died Wednesday trying to save a friend on the freeway.
Both Czekaj and her 16 year old friend were staying at the Children's Receiving Home on Auburn Blvd. The 16 year old ran away from the location and on to the Cap City Freeway near Watt Avenue. Czekaj went chasing after her and was killed trying to save her friend.
Many described Czekaj as a great girl and a big sister to everyone.
