Sacto Area Jr College Students Quarantined After Exposure To Coronavirus

One student each at American River College and Cosumnes River College in the Sacramento region are confirmed to have been in contact with a patient being treated in Sacramento County for coronavirus. The unidentified students, both of whom work in the medical field, have been quarantined. Their classmates at both colleges are being notified.

The Los Rios Community College District is the parent organization for both schools. District spokesman Gabe Ross in a written statement said, "(county) health experts have indicated that there are no indications at this time that members of the campus communities are at risk of potential exposure to the virus."

Both the students reportedly were exposed to the virus last week while performing their jobs, though where they are employed is not clear. Sacramento County Public Health officials have asked the two students to self-quarantine for 14 days and to report back to the county if they begin to show symptoms.

The county has directed both colleges to take no immediate action beyond alerting other students and to proceed with regular class and work schedules at this time.

This comes at the same time the University of California, Davis revealed that a student there is showing "mild symptoms" of coronavirus. University officials say the student and two others from the same dorm have been isolated as a precaution.
