Sacramento Judge Orders More DNA Samples From Accused Golden State Killer

A judge in Sacramento says the accused Golden State Killer, Joseph James DeAngelo, will have to submit to more DNA samples testing. Prosecutors from several California counties where DeAngelo is accused of a variety of crimes, including rape and murder, are asking for new samples to compare to crime scene evidence.

Defense attorneys on Thursday argued that DeAngelo already gave samples when he was arrested, but Judge Steve White ordered four new samples. He declined a fifth request.

White also expressed concern with the fact that six county DA's offices are pooling their resources for the prosecution, while the Sacramento County Public Defender's Office is on their own.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 12, but defense attorneys say they cannot be ready by that time, especially without any help.
