Former Sacto Resident Extradited From UK, Facing Federal Terrorism Charges

A former Sacramento resident is facing a trial on charges he lied to a FBI agent regarding alleged travel to Syria in 2013 to support international terrorism. Brian Arthur Dempsey, 48, was extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States on June 12th after more than three years of litigation the courts, according to U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott in Sacramento. Dempsey was actually arrested in the United Kingdom in 2017, and he has been in British custody since that date.

The charges against Dempsey stem from a 2016 Sacramento grand jury indictment. The indictment alleges that he made false statements to the FBI agent during a 2013 interview at the Fiumicino International Airport in Rome, Italy.

Neither the FBI nor the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of California, provided more specifics about Dempsey's actions in terms of supporting terrorist activities.

If convicted, Dempsey could spend a maximum of eight years in prison for the charges filed in the case.
