Heatwave In Northern California Through the Weekend-Some Relief Monday

High pressure will build over the southwestern portion of the U.S. this weekend and that's going to result in above average temperatures for Northern California for the next several days. Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Sacramento predict daytime highs in the upper 90s to 100s will become widespread into the middle of next week.

They also said that there will be some overnight relief from the heat near the Delta, nighttime temperatures will remain warm in many parts of the northern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills.

These dry and locally breezy conditions will lead to elevated fire weather concerns and a danger of heat related illness, especially for people more susceptible to the heat.

If you do decide to seek relief in local rivers and lakes, you're advised to be cautious. The water is likely to be cold, and even strong, experienced swimmers can suffer hypothermia, lose muscle control, and be at risk for drowning. Drinking alcohol makes that even more likely.
