The mayor of San Jose is responding to allegations he ignored public safety coronavirus protocols for his family's Thanksgiving dinner.
In a written statement, Mayor Sam Liccardo admitted there were eight total family members present, representing five households, but state guidelines limit the number of households at a private gathering to three.
While he claims the meal was held outdoors and people were appropriately spaced, Liccardo is apologizing, saying he understands his obligation as a public official to set the example in following health guidelines. He says his latest remarks are a commitment to do better.
