Two Republican members of the state Assembly are introducing a bill to curb Governor Gavin Newsom's emergency powers.
AB 108 was sponsored by Vince Fong and Jordan Cunningham and aims to put the brakes on the governor's ability to use emergency power to unilaterally change laws. A key feature of the bill is the requirement that the Legislature approve the governor's use of the California Emergency Services Act every 60 days.
Cunningham, who represents San Luis Obispo, said the bill is designed to "restore balance" between the two branches of the state government.
