Dozens of tenants could soon be evicted from a River District residential hotel amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Ezralow Co. sent notices to at least 38 renters of the Hawthorne Suites saying they need to leave so the hotel could be renovated or sold. The notices ordered tenants who have been staying there for more than a year to move out by January 15th and offered a month of waived rent.
Those who have been there less than a year were not offered financial assistance and had to leave last week. Mayor Darrell Steinberg urged the company over the weekend to let all the tenants stay for now while the company and city work out legal specifics.
