New numbers show many of the most overrun hospitals in the U.S. right now are in California.
According to Department of Health and Human Services data, 48 of the top 100 hospitals with the highest rate of COVID-19 patients are there, followed up by Texas with 15. ICU admissions have surged more than 20% in the past couple weeks and experts are fearful that it will continue to get worse as the post-holiday surge starts to take hold.
The California hospitals facing the most strain are in Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley, where the ICUs reportedly have no beds left.
