State Suspends Nearly 1.5M Unemployment Claims

Roughly 1.4 million unemployment claims have been frozen as the state's EDD continues to crack down on fraud.

The EDD says it has examined existing claims in its massive COVID-19 unemployment relief program and found that roughly 3.5 million claims were "potentially fraudulent." Nearly two million of those claims have already been disqualified and payment for about 1.4 million has been suspended until they can be verified. California has processed more than 16 million unemployment claims since March.
