More than 1.5 million people have purchased health insurance through Covered California.
Roughly 200,000 more people bought health insurance this year compared to the same time period last year, a 14% increase. State officials say the number reflects California's high unemployment rate as millions have lost their jobs and employer-sponsored health coverage due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to purchase coverage is January 31.
