Hurricane-Force Winds Spark Wildfires In California

Hurricane-force winds are setting off wildfires in Northern and Central California.

On the Central Coast, fires in Santa Cruz County have forced 120 families to evacuate. Brush fires broke out in San Mateo County, right by San Francisco, and Yosemite National Park was forced to close yesterday because of damage from high winds. The threat of fires forced two COVID-19 vaccination centers to shut down. High wind warnings and advisories are out for much of the state with forecasts of winds 70 to 80 MPH at higher elevations and 50 to 70 MPH in valleys along the coast.
