Biden Administration Pauses Deportations, Curtails Arrests

The Biden administration is putting strict limits on deportations and arrests while it reviews policies and practices.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske released a memo a few hours after President Biden was sworn in. It directs Customs and Border Patrol and ICE agents to focus on national security threats. The Trump administration policy was anyone arrested in the U.S. who was here illegally could be deported. Pekoske ordered a review of immigration policies over the next 100 days. Anyone who is deemed a national security threat, felons serving time for murder or drug trafficking, or border crossers who arrived on or after November 1st may still be deported
