Sac Sex Trafficking & Abuse Cases Jump During Pandemic

Sex trafficking and the number of domestic and sexual abuse cases have dramatically increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WEAVE CEO Beth Hassett says last year the organization responded to more than 300 victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Hassett explains the intensity of violence in the relationships with the traffickers has increased, and traffickers aren't afraid to take advantage of victims who have lost their jobs, homes or families to the pandemic. The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office says local authorities have also been overwhelmed with reports of both adults and kids being trafficked.
