Poll: A Third Of CA Voters Disapprove Of Governor's Performance

A new poll shows Governor Gavin Newsom's popularity slipping in the Golden State, while the effort to recall him as governor gains traction among California voters. Mark DiCamillo, director of the Berkeley IGS Poll, says it's a clear sign the honeymoon period is over.

The survey of more than 10,000 registered California voters conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies last week found that just 46% say they currently approve of the Democrat's job performance. DiCamillo says the main reason voters cited for Newsom's falling approval rating is his handling of the pandemic, including the delayed COVID vaccine rollout and confusion over the rules for the regional stay-at-home orders for businesses.

More than 1.3 million signatures have already been collected in an effort to replace Newsom, but another two-hundred thousand need to be collected to trigger a recall. Those signatures will also need to be certified by the Secretary of State's office.
