San Francisco Sues School District To Force Reopenings

The city of San Francisco is becoming the first in the state and possible the nation to sue its own school board to force schools to reopen.

The suit being filed today accuses the district of violating state laws that require developing a clear plan during the pandemic to offer in-person instruction as soon as possible. City Attorney Dennis Herrera tells the Chronicle it's a shame it's come to this and that the district has earned an F after ten months of school closures. But a group of union teachers has threatened to organize a strike if schools are reopened before all employees have access to a COVID vaccine, personal protective equipment, ventilation and purifiers.
