Work Continues To Rename Sir Francis Drake High School

A list of nearly 80 suggested names is down to the final eight to rename Marin County's Sir Francis Drake High School.

The Drake name is being eliminated because of his ties to slavery. The English explorer is believed to have landed along what is now the Marin County coast, north of San Francisco, in 1579. School officials say Red Hill, Ross Valley, Creekside, San Anselmo, and Bon Tempe are among the finalists. Longtime Marin County film maker George Lucas is also a finalist, but he would have to authorize any use of his name.
