An innovative youth program in Sacramento is increasing transit ridership and school attendance.
SacRT's Jessica Gonzalez says the RydeFreeRT program is the part of Board Director and Sacramento City Councilmember Jay Schenirer's effort to combat chronic absenteeism and support young people's overall success. Nearly two years ago, SacRT launched the program which provides fare-free transit for youth in grades T-K through 12. Because of its success, the city has extended the program for a second year and has committed to continue its one-million- dollar investment annually.
