The Sacramento Republic FC is hitting another speed bump in the pursuit of joining Major League Soccer.
After the resignation of lead investor Ron Burkle last week, team president Ben Gumpert is announcing he will be leaving the Republic as well. He will serve as an Adviser to the remaining ownership. Gumpert played a pivotal role in earning an expansion bid by the MLS, a process that has now been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
