Some prison guards in California are telling female inmates that "men are coming" and to prepare for the worst.
Reported from the "Los Angeles Times," a California law went into effect that allows transgender inmates to request transfers to prisons aligning with their gender identity. California prison officials report 261 such requests have been made since the start of the year. The supposed influx of transgender inmates has led to fears of increased sexual violence, but a prison official say they are committed to providing a safe environment in the institutions.
According to the Corrections Department, just over 1% of California’s prison population — or 1,129 inmates — identify as nonbinary, intersex or transgender, and are populations that experience excessive violence in prison.
