New this morning, Governor Gavin Newsom is planning on phasing out fracking in California.
Several members of environmental groups told The San Francisco Chronicle they had been notified of an imminent announcement by Newsom to rein in fracking. Newsom is facing pressure from environmentalists who oppose fracking. According to the state Department of Conservation, fracking is the process of high-pressure liquids being injected into the earth to release oil and gas deposits, and accounts for only about 2% of California’s oil production.
A bill that would have banned fracking died in the Legislature last week.
