Scientists believe it may be possible to predict when a volcano is going to erupt.
NASA scientists admitted this week that while volcanic activity is usually inconsistent, it may be possible to develop a forecasting system. Researchers studied years of data from NASA satellites and figured out they could track thermal infrared measurements from a few volcanoes across the globe. Scientists now believe they could use similar satellite technology to develop a time frame for volcanic eruptions based on commonly repeated patterns.
