Grocery, Gas Prices Could Rise Due To Nationwide Truck Driver Shortage

A dramatic shortage of truck driver could lead to higher prices at the grocery store in the weeks ahead.

Sauer says one solution would be to allow trucks to haul more weight, but he says that's a temporary fix.

According to NBC News, truck drivers have been in a general decrease in supply in recent years. Older drivers are retiring and the industry has found difficulty recruiting new drivers due to long hours and low pay, said the American Trucking Associations. The ATA has warned of a “significant tightening of the driver market” that shows sign of only growing worse.
