Governor Gavin Newsom is adding $2 billion to the fire fighting budget following the worst fire season in California history. Fresh off a tour of fire conditions aboard a high tech black hawk helicopter, Governor Newsom delivered some sobering news.
The Democrat says the $2 billion is going to pay for new planes and helicopters, land management and manpower. COVID-19 took a toll on manpower, but the state kicked-in millions so Cal Fire could start hiring early. According to KCRA, last year was the state's most destructive fire season on record with more than 4 million acres burned. Some 10,000 structures were damaged or destroyed.
