The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors approved the Sheriff's Department's more than $680 million budget Monday, including $1.3 million for body-cams. Prior to this, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department did not have body cameras, but instead used mobile audio and video recording systems on its patrol vehicles. In addition to the new body cams, the department will now be hiring four new employees to support the program, including a sergeant's position, a systems analyst, and two technicians. The budget for the new equipment and positions was recently approved but the approval for the body cams came weeks ago with approval from the Board of Supervisors.
