This morning, it appears Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers will be getting a pay raise soon.

California lawmakers and other state elected officials, including the Governor, are slated to get a 4.2% raise at the year’s end. The California Citizens Compensation Commission voted this week to approve the raises. The commission has voted to increase elected officials’ pay every year from 2013 through 2019...but voted NOT to increase salaries last year due to the pandemic. This year, the state is projecting a massive budget surplus, so pay increases are back in the works.

There's also word this morning the recall election of Governer Newsom will cost California taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

California's budget is going to take a hit of more than $200 million to fund the special recall election of Governor Gavin Newsom. The state's Department of Finance says the $215 million is based on estimates from elections officials across all 58 counties. Officials say there may be additional costs through the Secretary of State's Office that have yet to be determined.
