Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep an Auburn man in jail for his role in the Capitol riot on January 6th.
Auburn's Sean McHugh has been charged with assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon and engaging in violence on federal property. Prosecutors say McHugh has a long history of criminal activity and releasing him on bail would pose a danger to the community. McHugh's attorney sought to paint him as a stable father with a steady job, also pushing back on her client's alleged use of bear spray on officers saying the photographic evidence is unclear.
McHugh is currently awaiting trial in the Sacramento County Jail.
