California's eviction moratorium and rent relief program has been extended until September 30th.

The agreement includes $5 billion in federal rental assistance to landlords and tenants. The new agreement increases rent reimbursements for late and future rent payments to 100% for landlords and tenants. Lower-income tenants who qualify for a state rental aid program — those who earn 80% or less of the median income in their county and were financially affected by COVID-19 — would be protected from eviction for an additional six months, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Advocates on both sides also warn that major changes must be made to help tenants and property owners navigate a confusing web of state and local pandemic housing aid programs.
