Two parent advocacy organizations are suing Governor Gavin Newsom and the state’s top health officials over the statewide mandate that children wear masks to school regardless of their vaccination status.

The parents’ lawsuit calls the state mask mandate arbitrary, not based on scientific evidence and harmful to students. The Department of Public Health earlier this month issued guidance requiring that K-through-12 California schools mandate mask wearing for students...which is not in line with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “A return to a normal school year is crucial to the mental and physical health recovery for students across California who have endured months of isolation,” said Jonathan Zachreson, founder of Reopen California Schools, an advocacy organization of nearly 16,000 California public school parents, according to Mercury News.

At least one other lawsuit has been filed over mask requirements in school. The father of a risingsenior at Palo Alto High School sued the school districtthis month after his son was denied entry to a summer history class for not wearing a mask.
