Randy Paragary, Sacramento Hospitality Pioneer, Dies At 74

Randy Paragary, a pioneer in Sacramento’s hospitality industry in the state capital, died Friday evening after a brief bout with cancer.

Paragary's restaurant adventure began in 1969 when he opened the The ParaPow Palace...and continued with Paragary’s, Cafe Bernardo, and Centro Cocina name a few. Paragary was 74. "When you think about pioneers in Sacramento’s food scene, Randy is at the top of that list," said Mike Testa, President of Visit Sacramento. "Randy was incredibly smart. He knew business like nobody else."

In January 2020, Paragary opened a new boutique hotel Fort-Sutter hotel at the corner of 28th Street and Capitol Avenue, near Sutter Medical Center and Sutter's Fort. according to KCRA. Paragary made major investments in the downtown Sacramento area, and is also considered a pioneer in K Street’s revitalization, according to the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
