More Evacuations In The Caldor Fire, Continues To Threaten Lake Tahoe Basin

The continued growth of the Caldor Fire in El Dorado County is prompting more evacuation orders and warnings around El Dorado and Alpine Counties. The new mandatory evacuation orders are for Twin Bridges East to Echo Summit, Highway 50 South to the Amador/Alpine County line, and Highway 50 North to Flag Pole Peak. New evacuation warnings are now in place for Christmas Valley from Highway 89 West to Echo Summit and Highway 89 due West to Watershed Ridge and South to the Amador/El Dorado County line. Warnings are also in place for Alpine County along Highway 89 South from Luther Pass Road to the Pickets Junction and West on Highway 88 to Kirkwood. Cal Fire instructions that mandatory evacuation orders means to leave immediately while the evacuation warnings are for residents to start preparing to leave. The closure of Highway 50 has been extended East to Meyers and spans both directions of the Freeway. Highway 50 to Sly Park Road and Twin Bridges is now closed except to those evacuating. The Caldor Fire jumped Highway 50 over the weekend and continues to impact the road conditions. At the same time of the new evacuations, Cal Fire reports the Caldor Fire sits at over 136,000 acres, which is about 213 square miles, and at 12% containment. A Red Cross Shelter is open at the Douglas County Community Center in Gardnerville, Nevada.
