Hwy 50 Set To Reopen One Month After Caldor Fire Closes Freeway

After closing due to the threat of the active Caldor Fire, one month later and the stretch of Highway 50 between Kyburz and Meyers is set to reopen Tuesday morning. On Monday, that part of the freeway reopened for Tahoe area residents only. The full reopening for the public is set for Tuesday at 8am, as reported by Caltrans. The Caldor Fire started on August 14th and stands at 75% contained, as of Monday morning. The fire in El Dorado County has burned over 219,000 acres. As residents start to repopulate the area, the National Weather Service is issuing a red flag warning for the region, warning of high winds and fire conditions.
