Safety Concerns Rise Following Recent String Of Shootings In Old Sac

Following a recent shooting, Sacramento City Council members are looking at new safety plans for the Old Sacramento Waterfront. Mayor Darrell Steinberg said the City Council approved $5 million dedicated to improving Old Sacramento as well as increasing law enforcement and safety measures in the area. In addition to extra officers on patrol, Steinberg said the city will install better lighting and surveillance cameras as well as fund a program to address violence among young people. Old Sacramento is a popular tourist destination, but locals say they often feel unsafe there on Friday and Saturday nights. Last weekend's shooting was one of several in recent weeks, leading to heightened concerns for safety.
