The City of Sacramento is planning more sweeps of homeless camps on Monday. Caltrans removed several camps under the X Street Bridge last week with more sweeps planned for this week. Some City leaders say they were never notified that a sweep was going to take place. The City has created "safe ground" camping sites and has a wide selection of shelters, but many of them are at full capacity. CBS 13 reports that many of the displaced people simply moved across the street in front of residential homes. Caltrans was sent to look into the camps in that area after residents complained of smells and needles. Caltrans says the camps posed a threat to public safety. The protocol is to post notice of camp removal 72 hours before the sweeps.
