San Jose State University President To Resign End Of Fall Semester

The president of San Jose State University will resign at the end of the fall semester.

Mary Papazian announced her intention to resign yesterday amid criticism over the handling of a sexual abuse scandal that resulted in a recent $1.6 million settlement. It is unclear who will replace her when she resigns on December 21st but school officials will meet with campus stakeholders to name an interim president. In a statement to the university community, Papazian said the “best interest of the campus continues to be at the forefront of every decision I make,” adding that she decided to leave the helm as the university’s 30th president “after thoughtful consideration.”

The CSU Board of Trustees will soon launch a national search for the next SJSU president, university officials said.
