A San Luis Obispo county judge has set April 25th, 2022 as the start date for the murder trial of Paul Flores and accomplice Ruben Flores, who are accused of killing Cal Poly student Kristin Smart in 1996 and hiding her body. Both men in court Wednesday morning entered not guilty pleas to the charges, first entering not guilty pleas back before the preliminary hearing on April 19th, 2021. It was not discussed if the trial will be held in San Luis Obispo or moved to another location. Prosecutors are charging Paul Flores with murder while he was in the process of or while committing rape. If the above charges leads to a conviction, Paul will have to register as a sex offender. Ruben Flores is being charged as an accomplice after the fact for helping cover up the acts and hide the body. The prosecution also says they will bring forth new digital evidence and police reports of Paul's previous alleged illegal sexual acts.
