Governor Gavin Newsom is looking alive and well as he attended his first event this morning after nearly two weeks of going off the grid. Newsom went radio silent after canceling his trip to Scotland for the UN Climate Change Conference. Newsom typically makes several public appearances a week but with several days in a row of no sightings, many were speculating about his health after publicly receiving a Covid-19 booster shot on October 27th.
Newsom appeared in what his office calls a "fireside chat" at the 2021 California Economic Summit in Monterey Tuesday and clarified what kept him from attending the conference in Scotland. Newsom explains that he chose to stay in California due to "family obligations" after he and his wife ultimately decided to spend time with their kids for Halloween after they made a plea for their parents not to miss trick-or-treating. The Governor and First Partner also stayed back to attend their kids' soccer tournaments and catch up on work at the state Capitol.
Over the weekend, the Governor was confirmed to have attended the wedding of Ivy Love Getty, great-granddaughter of billionaire oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, according to Vogue and People Magazine. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officiated and also in attendance was San Francisco Mayor London Breed. Newsom's family and the Getty's have been long time family friends with the Governor's father once managing the Getty family trust.
