Local Ski Resorts Pushing Back Opening Dates

Two local ski resorts are pushing back their opening dates.

Northstar California and Heavenly ski resorts cite warm temperatures for making the decision. Both resorts had planned on announcing their opening dates over the weekend, but changing weather forced delays. Northstar is still inviting the public to enjoy its village facilities, while Heavenly is opening its gondola and Tamarack Lodge on Friday. Officials hope to have the new season's dates next week. "Our top priority is to provide our guests with the best early-season ski and ride experience possible," a statement from both Heavenly General Manager and Vice President Tom Fortune and Northstar General Manager and Vice President Deirdra Walsh read.

Despite recent rain and snowfall, temperatures remain too warm for snow to stay on the ground. Northstar in a tweet shared a picture of one of its snow blowers in use.
