Heavy Snowfall This Week Helping Tahoe Ski Resorts Open Sooner

The Sierra Nevada is tallying up some impressive snowfall totals, with even more on the horizon. The National Weather Service says some areas have received 5 feet of snow since Sunday. The 48-hour totals were updated as of 10 a.m. Tuesday. Dodge Ridge, Palisades Tahoe, and the Sierra Snow Lab all reported 60-inches of snow. Sugar Bowl checked-in with 58-inches, Bear Valley 54-inches, Kirkwood 52-inches, and Kingvale 48.

Lake Tahoe officials say 100% of Sierra ski resorts will be opening this weekend after several feet of snowfall. Resort operators are thrilled after delays hindered their openings due to lack of snow and temperatures that were too warm to make artificial powder. Over the past 24-hours, at least 25-inches of snow fell at Kirkwood Mountain and Northstar got 29-inches. Another storm is expected to move across Northern California Wednesday night into Thursday. Forecasters say another one-to-two-feet of snow is possible in the higher elevations.
