A Stockton firefighter has died after being shot while responding to a fire. The 21-year veteran of the department was responding to a dumpster fire in the area of Aurora Street and Washington Street when a suspect started shooting and Captain Max Fortuna was struck. The 47-year old Captain was taken to a nearby hospital shortly;y after where he later succumbed to his injuries. A 67-year-old man was detained on the scene and was found with a firearm according to the Stockton Police Department. The main suspect has been detained with no other individuals believed to be a suspect at this time. Fortuna leaves behind a wife and two grown children. City and fire officials held a press conference Monday to provide details on the incident.
