A Republican plans to announce his candidacy later today for California Governor.
A source tells CBS 13 State Senator Brian Dahle plans to announce his candidacy at the Redding Civic Auditorium lawn at noon today - one of the first Republican candidates to do so since the recall election. Dahle represents a rural and conservative part of the state, 1st Senate District, which covers 11 counties including Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Shasta. Senator Dahle is in his last year of his first term in the state senate, and is the only current Republican that plans to start a campaign to try to defeat Governor Gavin Newsom in the polls later this year. There has been quiet activity from California Republicans when it comes to announcing bids - San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer has showed his intent to run for governor by filing the paperwork, but otherwise there have been no other official campaign announcements.
Dahle will make his official announcement at noon today, February 8, at the Redding Civic Auditorium along with a livestream option on his official Facebook page. The California Gubernatorial Primary is set for June 7, 2022.
