Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell announced his plans for retirement at the end of 2022 and cites medical complications with his back as the cause behind the decision. Bell posted the announcement on Facebook, saying that after 30 years, he is going to start prioritizing his health and family after reflection with his doctors. Bell will finish out his current term but not seek re-election. Sheriff Bell is also voicing his support for Undersheriff Wayne Woo, who announced his intention to run for Placer Sheriff shortly after Bell's announcement.
