The Speaker of the House has tested positive for COVID.
A spokesman for California Democrat Nancy Pelosi says she is "currently asymptomatic," while Drew Hammill tweeted that Pelosi is fully vaccinated and boosted. He said the Speaker is "thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided."
Pelosi was at the White House twice this week for events with President Biden. Pelosi, who is second in the line of succession to the presidency after Vice President Kamala Harris, was among other lawmakers who appeared maskless with President Joe Biden earlier this week at a bill signing ceremony at the White House. The positive test came just before her weekly news conference, which was subsequently canceled.
Hammill said that a planned congressional delegation to Asia, which Pelosi had been scheduled to lead, would be subsequently postponed.
